screw you guys, I’m going home

yeah, not a song lyric.  So what?  I’m effing pissed off.  Death to twitter and all things impersonal and useless on this internet.  The fact that I’m posting this on a blog kinda sucks some of the venom out of that statement, but that don’t make it any less valid.   Also, I’m out of cat food, so sasha keeps trying to break stuff.  Best go purchase kibble before she burns the house down.

The end of an era

Y’all are probably sick of the house related posts, but I figured all the knights would remember this old classic.  That’s right, it’s the final piece of furniture from mom’s parents bedroom set that I’ve been using since circa 1988 when the addition went on the parkhill house.  I think scott had the matching bed and other dresser at one point, but managed to dump them a lot sooner.   The newsflash is that this dresser is now departed from my house.   Gone, finit.  To the great furniture farm in the sky.  Or more accurately to the kind lady who actually gave me $50 for it.  So take one last look because it’s outta here.

It’s a beautiful day in the neighborhood

Look at all of the strawberries my yard gave me!  There were so many I got tired of picking them and decided to go inside and take a picture of the haul so far.  Now if only there were enough strawberries to offset the mortgage costs…

Everybody was Kung Fu Fighting

HP is the best company in the universe.  They’ve apparently  teamed up with dreamworks pictures to promote the new movie Kung Fu Panda.  Should be pretty awesome, but what’s even better is that in an attempt to con little kids into printing more, the HP website has……wait for it….

Printable Kung Fu Panda Cootie Catchers

First of all; “Cootie Catchers” . nuff said.  Amazing in their own right, but when combined with panda branded design, should be pretty nifty.  I’ll attempt to print one later in the day if I have spare time at work.  I’ll let you know if they’re capable of actually telling the future.  And aside from Diana, does anyone out there actually still remember how to make these?  Maybe printable directions would help…That’s my update for the day.  :)

every day a little apocalypse

I survived another week.  That shouldn’t be a premature conclusion, since it is friday and I made it to work.  I count attendance as survival.  Nothing like a nutritious breakfast of vending machine pop-tarts and coffee to start the day off right.  Much data crunching to be done, and not so much noise since everyone with vacation is taking today and/or tuesday as fun time.  I will be working from home this afternoon (catching up on mandatory training certifications and unpacking).  Which doesn’t really count as vacation, but monday is definitely a holiday.  They’re predicting 68 degrees and a chance of rain.  Any suggestions for what hapless meat product I should grill?  I’ve still got plenty of propane, but haven’t broken out the grill since I moved.  The only tricky part will be getting out of the back door without letting the cat out.  There’s currently no door knob on the inside, and I had to amputate the spring thing that automatically closes the storm door.  It’s a fenced backyard though, maybe I will just take my chances and hope she doesn’t get far.  Perhaps I will do steaks.  That would be tasty.

Fingers crossed that the tile shipment comes in and the tile guy actually shows up and finishes the tile layout and grouts.  I don’t particularly want to have it in process until wednesday, but the electrician won’t finish the lighting until June 2, so it’s not exactly critical path.

My latest online window shopping foray yielded the following flooring product for the kitchen.  If you feel like donating, I may start a charity fund. I really like the idea of a smooth, vacuumable kitchen floor, so I’m voting for Forbo Marmoleum ( http://www.themarmoleumstore.com/default.aspx?menuid=898 )  in the color “Fairy Blue” forbo marmoleum in Fairy Blue

I’ll go check out the samples from the interior design store and take some pictures of it next to the cabinets, but it manages to complement the “sandalwood” finish on those without making it look orange.  It wouldn’t be a bad match with the blue stripe in the tile, either.  The only problem is that unlike vinyl, I definitely couldn’t install it myself.  Putting pieces together requires some sort of professional high temperature welding to attach the seams.  And installation=$$.  So for now I will stick with the white/marbly vinyl floor that has seen better days and doesn’t line up with my new cabinets.  Back to the number crunching and e-mailing and meetings for now.  Happy Friday!

Break on through

Here goes… Trying a new format now after becoming disillusioned with the whole facebook/myspace rivalry. I’m far too busy at my fabulous job to keep two profiles and pages updated, so I’m migrating to a third location entirely. The topics will probably be work or house related for the next month or so; those two activities take up the majority of my time and energy. Life out of school is pretty fantastic so far, but as always, we’re ramping up to some final velocity… more as the situation develops.
